Nigeria barred from U.S. Diversity Visa Lottery program

The United States’ Diversity Visa Lottery program will no longer be open to Nigerians, the U.S. Department of State has said. Information released by the department and sighted on Sunday revealed that Nigeria is now on the list of countries barred from participating in the upcoming DV-2015. According to the document, the disqualification from the program is because “more than 50,000 natives of these countries immigrated to the United States in the previous five years.” Many other African countries, however, remain eligible to participate in the program and applications for the DV-2015 lottery is set to take off on October ...

Nigeria court grants extradition of Al-Qaeda suspect to U.S.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted a request to have Lawal Olaniyi Babafemi extradited to the United Staes where he will face charges of assiting the Yemeni branch of Al Qaeda, Reuters reports. Both U.S. and Nigerian authorities allege that Babafemi travelled to Yemen with members of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) in 2010 and 2011 and received $8,600 to return to Nigeria and recruit English-speaking radicals. Justice Ahmed Mohammed said in court: “Lawal Olaniyi Babafemi … is not contesting these proceedings”. How three “bored” teenagers murdered a man “for fun”

Oklahoma police are investigating three “bored” teenagers, who allegedly killed a man “for fun”. Christopher Lane, an Australian visiting the town of Duncan, was out on a jog when he was gunned down at random, Police Chief Danny Ford said on Monday. One of the three murder suspects, a 17-year-old, confessed to the crime, but police are yet to find the murder weapon. At age 18, American student Gabrielle Turnquest is the youngest person to be called to the Bar of England and Wales after passing her exams, Telegraph reports. The average lawyer takes the Bar Professional Training Course at age 27. Nigerian music director jailed 90 years in the U.S. for raping, impregnating daughters

An award-winning Nigerian music director, Aswad Ayinde, will now spend a total of 90 years in prison after he was found guilty of fathering children with his daughters.
