STF says 100 rebels killed in gun battle

The Special Task Force in Plateau State claims it has killed over 100 rebels suspected to have attacked some villages in the Langtang South local government area. Commander of the STF, Major General Henry Ayoola, addressing a press conference in Jos, said the men were gunned down during a shoot out with STF operatives. Ayoola said the attacks are not linked to Boko Haram violence. About 28 people, in the villages of Magama, Bongon and Karkashi, were killed in the pre-dawn attack by suspected Fulani gunmen. 10 killed as Christians, Muslims clash in Jos

Community leaders have reported 10 killed in religious-based attacks over the weekend in Jos. Leaders of two villages in the central city said the clash was between Christians of the Tarok tribe and Muslims from the Jukun people, according to the Associated Press. Jawka Baba, leader for the Jukun people, accused the Tarok people of burning down homes in his village and killing six people on Monday. Baby boy dumped in refuse bin, burned to death

A baby boy, packed up in carton, was dumped in a refuse cart and burned to death in the Plateau state capital city of Jos. According to the Vanguard, witnesses report seeing an unidentified woman disposing of the box on Friday morning. Passers-by suspect the baby was set on fire after he was dumped in the garbage bin. Witnesses noticed the fire several minutes after the unidentified woman had dropped the carton and left. Eye witnesses say the baby was badly burned from abdomen to legs. Police uncover explosives, bomb materials in shop in Jos community

Police in Jos, the Plateau state capital, on Easter Monday reported the recovery of explosives in a shop located in Anguwan Rogo. The discovery comes days after clashes between Atakar and Fulani herdsmen in neighboring Kaduna killed at least 19. Law enforcement searched the shop after the owner of the building reported that the tenant who rented the shop had failed to pay rent and wanted to force an eviction. Two killed in attack on village in Jos

Two people were killed on Wednesday when gunmen attacked a ranch in Du village in Jos’ south local government area, This Day newspaper reported. According to the paper, gunmen in a Toyota Hilux van stormed the village, home to Plateau state governor, Jonah Jang. Jos – The Plateau police command on Friday announced a ban in the sale and use of bangers as part of measures for peaceful celebration of Christmas and New Year festivities. At least 10 people were injured on Monday when Plateau state striking workers clashed with policemen during a protest in the capital city of Jos, the News Agency of Nigeria reported. Unknown gunmen in Jos on Monday night killed a one year old girl, her brother and both parents at their residence in the South Local Government Area of the restive city.
