Four arrested Boko Haram suspects die in custody

Four alleged Boko Haram members died in custody shortly after they were arrested, military officials said on Sunday, according to the Associated Press. A Nigerian security official, the report said, confirmed the arrest of 11 members of the sect in Michika town in Adamawa state. They were arrested with the aid of vigilante group, the Civilian Joint Task Force. A commanding officer said on Sunday that six of the suspects were taken to Maiduguri and five others kept in Mubi. Two notorious Boko Haram commanders killed in gun battle in Adamawa

NAN – The Nigerian Military Special Operation Unit, Mubi Battalion, Adamawa, on Tuesday said it killed two notorious Boko Haram commanders during a gunfire exchange. Lt. Col. Beyidi Martins, the Commanding Officer, Operation, told newsmen in Mubi. Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters has reportedly deployed 1,000 more troops to Adamawa state, according to Sahara Reporters. The order comes as Nigeria’s armed forces intensifies its military crackdown across northeastern states. The military launched its offensive on Boko Haram strongholds in the area after President Goodluck Jonathan declared an emergency rule in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, border states with a heavy terrorist presence. Major opposition party, Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), has said it opposes President Goodluck Jonathan’s decision to declare a state of emergency in three flashpoint northern states, describing it as “futile”.
