Turkish national kidnapped in Rivers state

Unknown gunmen have reportedly kidnapped a Turkish national in the Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers state, Thisday newspapers reported.

The Turkish citizen, Mr. Baran Karakus, a supervisor with Rivigo JVC Nigeria Limited, was kidnapped on Tuesday morning when the gunmen in a Mercedes Benz car blocked his vehicle and whisked him off amid gunfire.

One source told the paper that there were two gunmen witnessed kidnapping the victim.

Top officials in the LGA have assured the firm of the speedy and safe release of their expatriate staff.

Police confirmed the incident, saying the “expatriate was kidnapped about 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday while on duty at Unity road”.

Spokesman for the state police command, DSP Ben Ugwuegbulam assured that the police has “taken steps to ensure the early release of the expatriate, as well as the arrest and prosecution of the kidnappers”.
