The Bauchi state government has come to the aide of 25-year-old Abubakar Buba, the young man who’s kidneys were allegedly removed in a private hospital in the state where he had gone to for a typhoid treatment.
Governor Isa Yuguda, the Vanguard reported, donated a $22,000 (about N3.5 million) which will enable Buba go to India for a transplant.
Buba’s family said he had been experiencing fever and stomach pains when he went in to the hospital for treatment, but once there a doctor surgically removed his kidneys in a shady procedure. Since the operation, Buba has remained on dialysis at the Renal and Dialyses Centre of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi.
Buba’s mother and uncle have agreed to donate kidneys for the transplant and Yuguda is set to provide the money for the transplant, medical treatment and recovery. The medical team will take the patient and two kidney donors to Kano for tests, the report said.
