Four robbery suspects were killed in gun battle with police on Friday in Lagos, reports have said. The showdown between the criminals and law enforcement took place in the Ilasamaja area where a robbery gang had attempted, without success, to carry out an operation.
The Punch reported that a total of seven robbers had attacked a residential building on Ibadan street at about 2 a.m. on Friday when they were interrupted by policemen.
They had begun the operation when a call was placed to the Ilasamaja police division.
The anti-robbery unit of the police division engaged the robbery suspects in a gun battle. Four robbers were killed, while three others escaped with bullet wounds. Residents commended the police officers on their handling of the criminals who they say have terrorized the neighborhood for some time now.
The residents were also surprised to find that the robbers were known persons in the community. Three of them were alleged to be members of the Baale chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, while one was said to be a member of the neighbourhood Oodua Peoples Congress, the Punch reported.
