Residents say two gunmen in the Maiduguri metropolis shot and killed an evangelist of the Good News Church.
Evangelist Ali Samari, 57, was gunned down at his Mafoni residence around 6:30 p.m. shortly after he returned from work.
According to residents, the late evangelist was a wristwatch repairman and worked out of the post office in his area.
“Whenever he finished evangelism, he would go straight to his place of work in order to earn a livelihood,” Matthew Zakka, a fellow church member and friend of the deceased told the Daily Trust.
He said he believed the assailants trailed the evangelist to his house and fired several shots at him before disappearing.
“It was obvious that he was their target and they succeeded in eliminating him,” Zakka said. Borno State police spokesman, Gideon Jibrin, confirmed the incident.
