AP – An Australian nurse and a Nigerian man face possible death sentences in Malaysia after being charged with drug trafficking.
Lawyer Tanya Scivetti says Emma Louise L’aiguille was detained July 17 with Nigerian Anthony Esikalam Ndidi after police found a kilogram (2.2 pounds) of methamphetamine in their car in Kuala Lumpur.
She says L’aigulle, from Melbourne, will plead innocent because the car was not hers and she had no knowledge of the drugs.
The case is to be heard Oct. 1.
L’aiguille is the second Australian to face a possible death sentence this year, after Dominic Jude Christopher Bird from Perth was charged in March with drug trafficking.
Drug trafficking carries a mandatory penalty of execution by hanging in Malaysia.
