Seun Kuti fans who came to see the talented Afrobeat performer sing at the Royal Theatre in Stratford, London left angry and disappointed after security put a halt to the performance.
According to reports, Seun Kuti refused to perform during the last night of the music showcase during the New World Nigeria event in London when security stopped his fans from dancing to the music.
The renowned saxophonist was the headline act of the event and though his performance was said to have started an hour late, due to no fault of his own, his fans were still waiting to enjoy their fill of his scheduled hour-long performance.
No sooner had he started and fans were already on their feet dancing to his songs. Security guards at the Theatre, however, were having none of it. They ordered the fans to sit down while the Afrobeat performer did his thing on stage.
Like that makes any sense at all?
It didn’t! Both fans and entertainer were angry. Adoring fans cheered Seun Kuti who insisted that he would not perform for people who are just going to sit and not dance.
“I am here to make my fans dance, if they are not going to be allowed to do this then I will not perform,” Seun declared and he was applauded by fans.
One security guard is seen in the video getting on stage to stop the performance.
Angry fans streamed out of the theatre. One fan said it was “the biggest insult” to Seun Kuti for a “bouncer” to go on stage and stop the performance.
