Heavy gunfire has been reported along Gasua road in Damaturu, the capital of restive Yobe state.
Residents reportedly fled to their homes after the gunfire began around 1:30 p.m.
Police commissioner in Yobe, Patrick Egbuniwe, confirmed the troubling development to Channels Television.
The Daily Trust reported that police spokesman in the state, Toyin Gbadegesin, confirmed the gunfire, but was not clear as to who was behind it. The police spokesman said he was uncertain as to whether it was an attack or a raid by the JTF.
