Aderonke Akinyemi, 38, is seeking a divorce at a Lagos court on Tuesday, claiming that her husband has starved her of sex for the past four years.
Mrs. Akinyemi, fed up with her husband’s excuses, has decided to end their 18-year marriage.
“For four years my husband did not sex me. When he comes back from work he always give excuses of tiredness or sickness,” the mother of two told the Badagry Customary Court.
She accused her husband, Adewole Akinyemi of abusive behaviour. Akinyemi, 45, did not put up much of a fight, agreeing to give his sex-starved wife a divorce.
However, he explains that he started turning down his wife’s sexual advances only after he’d been rejected too many times.
“My wife always turns me down each time I want to have sex with her and she does not give any reason for her action,” he said.
Akinyemi, who works at Shagamu in Ogun, counter-claimed that his wife was always careful to avoid him every time he came home to their Ikoga, Badagry residence. Only returning home after he goes back to work.
However, the soon to be ex Mrs. Akinyemi had a defence against her husband’s counterclaims. She said he had wanted only two children, asking her to get rid of all other pregnancy afterwards.
“On three occasion when I was pregnant for him, he asked me to abort it, so because of this, I refused to allow him have sex with me again,” she said.
Mr A.B. Kudaisi, who presided over the case, has asked the couple to go back home and try reconciliation.
“You have to think of the interest of the children, especially now that they are at a crucial stage when they need your financial and moral support for their education,” Kudaisi said.
He adjourned the case until 23 July.
