NAN – The Nigerian Army has confirmed that there was indeed an explosion from an Improvised Explosive Device in Kaduna on Wednesday.
Initial reports on Wednesday evening indicated that there was an explosion in Rigachikun area of Kaduna. However, some accounts said an IED was discovered and defused while others said there was nothing like that.
However, on Thursday, the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 1 Division, Kaduna, Col. Sani Usman, confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria that there was an explosion along Kaduna-Zaria Road.
He said the IED, which explosion at a spot between Dankande village and Marrarabar, Jos, was planted by unknown persons.
The army spokesman said the device exploded around 5.30p.m.
He said only one person sustained injury, adding that the army had already deployed experts to ascertain the situation.
Usman appealed to residents of the area not to panic as security agents were on top of the situation.
He also called on Kaduna residents to assist security personnel with useful information and to be vigilant and report strange movements.
