Two students were killed as cult violence erupted in a Benue state institution on Friday, police officials have confirmed.
Benue State police spokesman, ASP Ejike Alaribe, said law enforcement had received reports that suspected cult members had attacked the living quarters of two students at the Fidei Polytechnic in Gboko.
According to the Vanguard report, one of the two victims was shot in the neck and died before he could receive medical treatment, while the other was killed instantly.
Angry students mobilized through the campus to seek out the perpetrators shortly after news of the murders spread and in a violent reprisal, took justice into their own hands.
Alaribe said: “They caught up with the two suspects who were identified as being responsible for the shooting, macheted one of them to death but the police arrived the scene before they meted out jungle justice to the other”.
Two more suspects were arrested in connection to the murders, the police spokesman said.
