Police commissioner of Kano State has revealed that some 17 gunmen were killed in Tuesday’s attack targeting the Dala Divisional Headquarters.
Ibrahim Idris, the police boss in northern Nigeria’s largest city, said several locations were hit in the attacks, including the Jakara Police Barracks, Goron Dutse Prison yard, 52 Squadron of the Mobile Police Force and a Junior Secondary School at Sabuwar Doka at Ungogo Local Government Area.
The police said they killed 10 assailants, while one police corporal was felled in the attack. The Joint Task Force operatives on their end killed seven, spokesman, Lt. Ikedichi Iweha confirmed to the Daily Trust.
Police officers arrested three suspected attackers.
The combined team of police and JTF operatives recovered weapons after the attacks, including: five assault rifles, 220 rounds of ammunition, several Improvised Explosive Devices, five motor vehicles, three motor cycles, N100,000 cash inside one of the vehicles, as well as a cache of drugs and syringes.
The security operatives are asking locals to be on the alert for injured persons seeking medical treatment at local chemists as they might be gunmen injured during the gun battle.
