RedMic with two new tracks – “Flick, Flick, Flick” and “Around Me”

Chika Moses

This is the first I’ve heard of RedMic, but here’s hoping it is not the last. The Ghana-born rapper released two new tracks yesterday, “Flick, Flick, Flick” and “Around Me”, off his upcoming album Thirst For Success.

RedMic, birth name Melvin E. Asare, says he discovered his passion for music right of high school and has been in pursuit of that passion since 2008. As the rapper came into his own, discovering his sound, he banded together with like-minded friends to form a group named ApVille.

The up and coming star has recorded other tracks with his group, but “Flick, Flick, Flick” and “Around Me” are his first solo offerings.

“Flick, Flick, Flick”, which I am listening to for the umpteenth time even as I write this post, has an ease to it and is somewhat reminiscent of say Lupe Fiasco’s delivery style (in this writer’s opinion). It was produced by TrakZilla, while his second solo effort, “Around Me” was produced by NeL Magnum.

The message behind “Around Me” is deep, about struggle and survival and a bit of personal reflection, I believe.

What’s we like about RedMic? The fact that he is a rapper with a message you can listen to, grasp and groove to (do folks still say groove?)

Personal fave is definitely “Flick, Flick, Flick” (don’t judge me!). Check out the tracks below and click titles for download. What’s your favourite?
