Ex-lawmaker, Dino Melaye, says unknown persons are trying to kill him for being critical of President Goodluck Jonathan.
According to the Punch report, the former member of the House of Representatives said at a press conference in Lagos on Monday that his assailants have often threatened him to stop confronting the President.
Melaye believes that his criticisms of Jonathan’s poor handling of matters of corruption, but insists that he will not be deterred from his path.
“These threat messages cannot cow me from fighting against corruption. I will not stop fighting against the ills of the society until things change for the better,” Melaye said.
“As a son of God, only God can kill me. May I state here that I have nothing personal against President Goodluck Jonathan. However, he appears to be incapacitated with the way he is handling the problem.”
Melaye said attempts on his life have been reported to the police division at Wuse in Abuja. He also shared some of the threatening messages he received.
One of the messages read, “Last Warning: Dino! Dino!! Dino!!!’ We are giving you the last warning. We have sent you several messages on your phones but you refused to stop TV interviews, Internet messages, wearing of anti-Jonathan T-shirts. This will cost your life.
“We will kidnap and kill your children. We know their schools. The blood on this paper is an example of how we will sprinkle your blood around to show others like you that we mean business.
“Useless man; you are too small to give Mr. President problems. If you disregard us, you will hear from us.”
Melaye was arrested earlier this year for participating in the protest against corrupt government and the fuel subsidy removal.
