There is chaos and confusion in the Yobe state capital of Damaturu where gunshots and bomb explosions are being reported.
The Daily Trust says the ongoing attacks are concentrated around Sabon Pegi, close to the state governor’s residence.
Panicked residents locked themselves indoors, the Premium Times reported. A resident to spoke to the Times earlier was distressed as he explained that the shooting began at about 5 p.m.
The report said the attack appeared to be between Joint Task Force operatives and suspected members of the Boko Haram sect.
Another witness reported hearing as many as 11 blasts and said he suspected the attackers were attempting to take over the government house.
