At least 5 killed in multiple auto accident involving PMS tanker

At least five people were killed on Thursday in a multiple accident in Ibafo, a few kilometers from the Redeem Church Camp, reports said.

The accident occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway when a trailer loaded with Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, rammed into some petrol tankers parked along the same road, around Danko Village, the Vangaurd reported.

The parked petrol tankers were left haphazardly on either side of the busy express way and the collision, eye witnesses say, have left several injured.

In total three petrol tankers and seven other vehicles were involved in the multiple auto accident and traffic was gridlocked as authorities attempted to sift through the carnage and debris.

The Federal Road Safety Corps Sector Commander in Ogun State, Ayobami Omiyale, told reporters that the accident, which happened around 12:30 a.m. involved at least 30 persons and added that two unidentified victims were burnt beyond recognition.

Five other sustained critical injuries from the accident, which was caused by reckless driving. The injured persons are now receiving treatment at a local hospital, Omiyale said.
