There are unconfirmed reports that Nigerian star Dapo ‘D’banj‘ Oyebanjo has snapped up fast rising pop star, Davido, signing the young star to his yet unnamed new music label.
According to NET reports, the “Dami Duro” singer was signed on 16 May at his Lekki residence, after a five-man discussion between D’Banj, his manajer Abisagboola “Bankulli” Oluseun, David “Davido” Adeleke, his manger Asa Asika and his father Deji Adeleke.
The group capped off the deal by heading to the weekly Industry Nite at Oriental Hotel to celebrate. According to the report, sources confirm that D’Banj and the 19-year-old star had been in talks about a possible deal for weeks. They had been seen together in the United States, hanging out at a strip club in Atlanta, Georgia.
Representatives of both entertainers are still keeping mum about the signing deal, with Davido’s manager insisting “we are still in talks, that’s all I have to say for now, it could take a day or a year.”
D’Banj, who parted ways with Mo’Hits crew and broke off the partnership with long-time producer Michael “Don Jazzy” Collins, is now full fledged member of Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label. The “Oliver Twist” singer officially announced last week that he is taking his career a step further, setting up a music label of his own.
While D’Banj didn’t give too many details about his new label, he did say it will have worldwide distribution with Universal Music Group.
