
A commercial bus said to be transporting illegal arms to an undisclosed location exploded on Thursday morning in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, leaving at least two persons dead, reports said.
The explosion happened at Rumuokoro roundabout in the oil-rich region. According to a BBC report, two robbers in the vehicle were killed when the explosives they were transporting detonated. Police also confirmed that three others were injured in the explosions.
The bus, painted in Rivers State colours, was completely wrecked by the explosion and nearby buildings shook from the impact of it.
Yushau Shuaibu, spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency, confirmed the development in a message to Punch early this morning.
