Top Nigerian rapper is at it again! Mr Incredible M.I. has released another visually stunning music video for his rap track Beef, off his previous album M.I. 2. The music video follows a young actor seen trolling the hard streets of Lagos, looking for “Beef” at every joint, an apt way to visually express the lyrics of the rap track.
“Beef” is M.I.’s shoutout to the “haters”, and he specifically slams his US based nemesis Iceberg Slim… remember that rap beef?
See, what had happened was: In 2009, Iceberg Slim “went there” when he released a single titled Mr. International, in which he boasts of his lyrical superiority over the Chocolate City rapper.
Not one to let the diss fly (I can’t believe I just wrote that), M.I. replied in a track titled “Somebody Wants To Die”… harsh!
Following the grim theme, Iceberg Slim, less that 48 hours after M.I.’s track dropped, replied in a track of his own titled “Assassination”, saying on Facebook, “since somebody wants to die, I will be responsible for the assassination”.
That verbal threat sparked M.I.’s taunt in the “Beef” track off the 2012 M.I. 2 album.
M.I. raps:
“See musicians trying to beef me, for real son// Maybe they’re doing it to promote their album
They know that using my name will help them sell some, so Iceberg it’s OK, you’re welcome.”
It’s been a while and Iceberg never did reply to this latest taunt, did he? Hmmmm… something to ponder. Enjoy the video!
