JTF begins manhunt for Boko Haram in Maiduguri

The Joint Task Force (JTF) in the Borno state capital of Maiduguri are out to restore order, reports said, adding that the military team has begun a state wide manhunt for members of the radical Boko Haram sect in the city.

In a statement, JTF spokesman, Lt. Col. Sagir Musa, said on Sunday that “the JTF is on massive cordon and search operation in targeted areas in Maiduguri.

“It is intended to arrest suspected Boko Haram terrorists, mop up illegal arms and ammunitions and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs),’’ Musa said.

Musa warned that suspicious individuals found housing terrorists, arms, ammunition and IEDs would be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law.

“The massive presence of troops on the river line bridge and other areas is a deliberate attempt to checkmate terrorists’ activities in the affected areas.”

The intensified search comes a day after multiple attacks on churches in Kano and Maiduguri, claimed at least 20 lives and left several injured.
