A ghastly collision in Zamfara state involving a Mitsubushi truck travelling from Niger state has reportedly claimed the lives of 12 people, the Vanguard reported.
According to reports, the accident occurred early Sunday morning, at Konan Bitoo in Talata Mafara, a LGA in the northern border state.
The truck, which was transporting some 45 passengers, was heading to Sokoto state before the crash at 5:42 a.m., the Vanguard reported.
The driver, the report said, had fallen asleep behind the wheel and lost control of the vehicle before it swerved into a ditch, leaving 12 dead and 33 more with varying degrees of injuries.
Alhaji Garba Muhammad Ibrahim, sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), confirmed the tragic accident, adding that the bodies have been released to relatives for burial rites, while the injured victims were currently receiving medical attention at a local general hospital.
