2face dedicates song to slain African American teen Trayvon Martin

Nigerian music star 2Face posted this video on YouTube, dedicating the song “One Love” in memory of Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old African American boy who was shot and killed by George Zimmerman.

Martin had been on his way home on 26 February when Zimmerman, 28, began following him. Zimmerman, a community watch coordinator, had reportedly called the Sanford Police department to report suspicious behavior.

A confrontation between the two ended fatally when Zimmerman shot and killed Martin. When police officers arrived at the scene, Zimmerman described the incident as self-defense. He was taken away in handcuffs but never charged as police claim they had no reason to believe Zimmerman’s account to be false.

The death of Trayvon Martin has received national and international attention and has brought Florida’s Stand Your Ground law under scrutiny.

Investigation into the killing is ongoing and has sparked a war of words between supporters of the slain Martin and those of his killer, Zimmerman

In the video, 2face condemns the killings and calls for love and peace despite race.
