There has been no official announcements yet, but word is Senegalese-American singer Akon has sealed a deal to get Nigerian hit makers Wizkid, 2face and duo P-Square on board his Kon Live Distribution label or Konvict Music.
According to thenetng.com, Akon revealed this to pressmen at Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha’s CLUB 10 while unveiling the Citron energy drink – he is the brand ambassador for the drink. The Net reported that Konvict star Akon copped to the signing, but wouldn’t say much more. He did, however, tweet (@Akon):
“In Nigeria with my brothers about to take over Africa with @2faceidibia and @wizkidayo big up to P-square.”
The Konvict Music boss has already got a history with both the performers, performing on the remix of Wizkid’s “Don’t Dull”, and he was spotted hanging with 2face back in June in Atlanta Georgia.
Being signed on to the label will be a big score for the major Nigerian stars and a definite shine for the “Don’t Dull” singer and his comrades, as they would be joining Konvict stars like Lady Gaga.
Banky W. hinted at the big news, tweeting: ‘But!!!!! Last night was kinda epic. Bigups to the EMEazzyyy + Konvict Music runz. Shoutout to everyone that saw the evidence ’, adding ‘Last night was KINDA heavy… Thank u to everybody that believed in and supported what we’ve been tryna do… Na God dey do am… God bless U real good!!!’.
All in all, it’s been a good year for Nigeria’s hip hop stars. With Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music snapping up D’banj and now Konvict nabbing Wizkid, 2face and P-Square, it speaks to the recognition these stars are attaining worldwide.
