So was browsing through the many talented voices and faces on iwantairplay.com when CON.tra.diction grabbed my attention with her pop/rock vibe track “Fi Mi Si Le”.
The track, which translated in English means “Leave Me Alone” is kinda hard to walk away from. I had the song on repeat for while. The contradiction of having an alternative rock sound paired with Yoruba/English lyrics makes for an interesting listen. I need this to get more radio play, if there are more artists like her, then there is hope for the future of Nigerian music, definitely.
The track is the artist’s debut single off her upcoming album “Pop, Rock, Soul & Jara”. CON.tra.diction, whose real name I can’t seem to find on the net, is a singer/performer/songwriter from Lagos Nigeria.
Her influences are diverse – Fela, to Tupac, to Eminem, to M.I, to Bob Marley, Alanis Morisette and Tracy Chapman – and her love for the diverse and experimental is evident in her sound, style and presence. Let’s watch this one, shall we? There’s promise here.
